How Does Body Contouring Actually Work?

body contouring

summer ready bodyBring on the summer heat, the cold drinks, the pool parties, summer solstice, and all the beach vibes! The season is nearing but is your best beach body ready? Don’t fret because body contouring may be your next best friend!

Body contouring, also called body sculpting, is a procedure done to remove excess fat and tighten sagging skin through various body contouring procedures depending on what type of procedure is to be done to the patient. There are two types of body contouring: surgical and non-surgical. Non-surgical methods like lipolysis make use of heat, cold, or lasers. Surgical methods use operative and instrumental techniques. One type of surgical method is liposuction, a procedure that removes fat.

Most people prefer non-surgical methods as the recovery time is faster and the pain is bearable than surgical methods. If you are doing body contouring or sculpting for the first time, non-surgical procedures might be something you would want to consider. One of these methods is mesotherapy.

Mesotherapy is said to be an alternative to liposuction. It uses a series of injections administered to the mesoderm, the middle layer of the skin, to eliminate excess fat and rejuvenate and tighten the skin. The injections used under mesotherapy trigger natural bodily responses of removing fat as well as skin healing, which makes it seem more natural than liposuctions.

Aside from that, here are some of the benefits of mesotherapy:

  • Targeted treatment. Because mesotherapy uses injections with vitamins, enzymes, plant extracts, and hormones directly to the skin to correct any underlying problems the skin may have. Mesotherapy is able to focus only on areas where treatment is needed, making sure you achieve the best results!
  • Less invasive. Unlike other surgical procedures, mesotherapy uses only injections for targeted treatment. There are no anesthesias, incisions, and even a long recovery period, making it less painful. Although there is a need to schedule more visits to the specialist for the treatment to take its full effect, it achieves just the same results as liposuction.
  • Less risk. Liposuction is known to be effective in permanently removing body fat, but as it is a surgical process, incisions and the suctioning out of fat puts the patient at risk for burns, infections, nerve and blood vessel damage, and different skin irritations, especially if not done by a board certified plastic surgeon. There are still risks to body contouring, though, but that of mesotherapy is lesser.
  • Cheaper. Liposuction, on average, cost around $5,000, while mesotherapy only costs about $500-$750 per session, which is a cheaper and safer alternative. However, you’ll have to go back, depending on how many sessions would be needed for your targeted treatment.
